Week 2 - Rule Based Art and Paper Folding Project

This week the technique we were taught involved creating unique shapes based on a set of rules. The rules I used were, triangle, square, cut piece out, add a fold then add a semi circle. This formula was repeated several times, adding just one extra command each time from the rules to each shape being formed.

STEP 2

The pattern pieces were then traced  on to spot and cross paper,. These were then numbered and cut out. I then twisted and folded them on the folds to create exclusive and interesting 3 D formations.

Week 1 - Form Fitting And Dart Manipulation

Week one was an introduction of how to manipulate darts on a female garment.

Step 1

A large piece of spot on cross paper was used to cover a female tailors dummy, which was taped down with cello tape forming the shape of a tight fitted dress.

 Step 2

Next several lines were drawn with a black marker pen to make pattern shapes on to the paper moulding.

Step 3

Notch's were then applied where needed, one for the front pieces and two for the back. The unwanted pieces were cut and thrown away and the shape of the dress was formed.

Step 4

The Shapes were then cut out into pattern pieces, which were then numbered and named.

Step 5

The patten pieces were then traced on to spot and cross paper with an added seam allowance. These pieces were turned on to the opposite sides then place on to the tailors dummy in different orders to create a new interesting style.

Step 6

The original pieces from the patten  were also placed on the opposite side then applied on to the garment. The combination of the two sets of pattern pieces added balance and complement each other and created a futuristic outcome to the design.
